Thieves broke into and stole from four businesses, three of which are in the Palisades area of Northwest D.C. News4’s Jessica Albert spoke with a business owner who had to repair her store after the crime. D.C. police are investigating four back-to-back burglaries that happened over the weekend in Southeast and Northwest.
The two suspects moved quickly, getting away with cash, an ATM and a car early Sunday morning. Three of the break-ins happened in less than 10 minutes, the Metropolitan Police Department said.
“You say to yourself, ‘What is going on in this world?’” a customer of one of the businesses told News4. “What makes people think they can break in and steal?”
The break-in spree began at 5:10 a.m. Sunday at a nail salon in the 1400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue SE near the Potomac Avenue Metro station, police said.
Investigators said the thieves smashed the front door. It was boarded up Monday.
The next three burglaries happened just minutes apart along MacArthur Boulevard in Northwest.
At 6:04 a.m., the suspects broke into the Palisades Market in the 4500 block of MacArthur Blvd.

“I’m worried about it happening again,” the woman who owns the market said. She did not want to be identified.
Surveillance cameras inside the market captured the two suspects carrying away the store’s ATM. They wore dark clothing with hoods over their heads and face masks.
The owner of the market said nothing like that had ever happened there in the five years she’s owned the store.
Four minutes later, the suspects are caught on camera breaking into Metro Motor. They smashed one of the garage windows, entered the business and made off with the cash register and keys to a Chevy Cruze, which they stole.
After that, they headed to Palisades Nails and Spa, where the thieves took a cash register and damaged the salon’s computer.
“It’s really scary to know that people are breaking in,” a longtime customer of the salon told News4.
D.C. police released photos of the suspects and the car they were seen driving.
“I just feel so badly about everybody…,” a customer said. “I mean, it’s not fair. It’s really not fair.”
Two of the four businesses targeted have repaired their shattered doors. The owner of Palisades Market said it cost her $600.
Police are asking anyone with information to call (202) 727-9099 or text a tip to 50411.
FCCA 2024 Holiday Decorating Contest–All FCCA Members can Vote!
FCCA 2024 Holiday Decorating Contest
We are reviving the Holiday Decorating Contest for the entire FCCA service area. In the past, categories have included 1) Most Creative, 2) Most Festive, 3) Most Kid-Friendly, and 4) Best Illumination. We are adding a 5th category: Best Display for a Small Yard. This year, all FCCA members will have the opportunity to submit their own votes. So how will this work? We will scout around the neighborhood periodically in December and take pictures of displays. We will post pictures and addresses on the website, so that people can check them out on-line and/or in person.
We will also organize at least two different neighborhood strolls in mid-December—one west of Foxhall Rd and one east of Foxhall Rd—to view the displays. Our previous organizer, Mallory provided mulled wine. But this year Katherine will provide homemade holiday butter cookies , so that people of all ages can join in. People can bring their beverage of choice. We can meet at the Hardy Rec Center (which is open M-F until 8 PM)
Members can submit their votes via email to ksamolyk@msn.com from December 18-22nd , and the name of each voter will remain confidential. We will publish the winners and the prizes in the January newsletter. If you see a display that you would like to nominate or if you would like to participate in a stroll (dates/times to be announced via an e-mail to all members), also please contact me at ksamolyk@msn.com.

Would you like to become an FCCA Board member?
FCCA Board Membership
The elected Board consists of seven to nineteen volunteers who decide amongst themselves who will serve as President/Chairman of the Board. Board positions are for one year. Many Board members cover specific areas in which they have an interest. Any Board member can volunteer to serve as President (also a one-year term). Elections for Board members are held each year, usually at the November General Meeting. We are seeking additional Board members to represent parts of our service area that are currently under-represented, specifically neighborhoods to the West of Foxhall Rd. Anyone who lives within the FCCA boundaries and is a member of the FCCA can be a Board member (the map is on the Home page.) We want to increase the extent to which residents have a voice in our community! Since we have open positions, if you want to be a Board member you are very likely to be elected. See the By-Laws for more details on how we operate. By-monthly Board meetings have largely taken place via Zoom. Currently we need someone willing to be FCCA secretary. The position largely involves keeping track of what is discussed at Board meetings. Feel free to contact a current Board member if you have any questions about the position.
If you want to become a member of the FCCA, please see the link on the Home page to learn how to do so.
